The placenta is a sacred and life-giving creation within a woman’s womb. The multi-dimensional essence and intricate nourishment which yields through the placenta during pregnancy creates an intimate connection between a mother and her baby.

Pregnancy and birth can be taxing on a woman’s body and deplete her of essential nutrients. The placenta is a wonderful postpartum ally because it brings harmony to dips in hormones, and offers a natural source of iron, protein, vitamins, and minerals. Women who take placenta pills have reported an increase in energy, mood, milk supply, libido, and overall well-being.

As a PBi Placenta Encapsulation Specialist®, I prepare placentas using the Traditional Chinese Method (TCM). The placenta is gently steamed with myrrh and ginger before it is dehydrated. Steaming is what makes the placenta the most powerful tonifying medicine that the TCM treasury has to offer. Dehydrating a placenta from a raw state will not give the resulting capsules the properties they need to be as potent as possible.

Benefits of Placenta Encapsulation

INCREASES MILK SUPPLY

In a study, Placenta as a Lactagagon (Soykova-Pachnerova E, et al, 1954), 86% of 210 women had a significant increase in milk supply after ingesting dried placenta, including those who had been unable to produce adequate amounts of breast milk after previous births.

REDUCES FATIGUE

During pregnancy, a woman needs to double her iron needs in order to make more blood to supply oxygen to the baby. The high demand for iron results in many pregnant women developing anemia. Low iron has been linked to fatigue and postpartum depression. Placenta is a wonderful source of natural iron that is bioavailable for the body to use.

BALANCES HORMONES

By the third trimester of pregnancy, a mother has three times the normal amount of hormones in her body. Around four to five days postpartum, her hormones drop below normal levels. Since the placenta retains hormones after birth, ingestion is believed to help balance postpartum hormonal fluctuations. Hormones are created by a woman’s body, making them perfectly suited for her unique system.

Love Notes

“If you’re considering getting your placenta encapsulated I would 100% recommend it. There were a couple of days I missed taking my capsules and I could honestly tell a difference in my moods on the days I took it versus the days I forgot in the beginning of my recovery. I would recommend Steffy to any woman I know. In fact, I have told all of my lady friends that are pregnant about her already. Steffy is AMAZING. She knew I was in St George from out of town to have my baby and her turnaround time was phenomenal. She is such a joy to work with and is so kind. She is the type of woman who helps other women feel empowered on their journey into motherhood. I will definitely be asking Steffy to process my placenta for all of my future pregnancies.” - Elizabeth Coonen

“I would definitely recommend encapsulating your placenta it helps with the baby blues, milk supply, balances hormones, and so many more things and on top of the benefits Steffanie makes it an easy and a quick process so you can enjoy your baby the first few days ! she came all the way to the hospital to pick up my placenta once i delivered and 42hrs later it was ready ! she drove all the way to hurricane dropped it off.” - Aly Torres

“I’m SO glad I decided to do placenta encapsulation! I wish I would’ve done it with my first baby. The benefits I saw were amazing! I have so many good things to say about the whole experience. Wild Earthling is the best!” - Chloee Blotter

“I highly suggest encapsulating your placenta and getting it done through Stephanie! She is such a doll to work with and makes it such an easy process on your part. It has helped so much and I’m so glad I made the decision to get it done.” - Lexi Bradford

“I can’t say enough good about having your placenta encapsulated. Steffy showed up at the hospital within hours of delivery to pick up my placenta and had it ready for me by the afternoon of the day I came out of the hospital. I believe these helped my milk supply and my energy levels and emotions have never felt better. Thank you!” -Kalvyn Reis

“Days before I went into labor I decided I wanted to get my placenta encapsulated and I had called a few places in town and never got a call back. My mom found Wild Earthling the day I had my C-section and Stephanie immediately answered her call. Stephanie was so on top of it and had accepted the payment from my mom and emailed me the documents I needed to sign straight to my email. Once I got to my recovery room I just pulled out my phone and e-signed the docs and that was all I had to worry about. My mom came and got my placenta from the hospital and took it home. Stephanie drove out to Leeds to pick up my placenta and then when everything was ready she communicated with me when she was going to bring my stuff and drop it off at my front door. She dropped it off and texted me to let me know it was there. The package included the placenta pills, a tincture in a jar, the dropper bottle to transfer the tincture to, a heart shaped memorabilia of my sons umbilical cord, and a packet with very detailed instructions and the history of placenta encapsulation. The jar the pills are in and the tincture bottle also have instructions. I went into this with not very much knowledge and Stephanie provided me with everything I would need to know! She even texted me to let me know that it was time to transfer the tincture into the bottle. Stephanie made this whole process so easy, which I appreciate because things are already so hectic when having a baby. If you are unsure whether to get your placenta encapsulated or not, do it, and do it with Wild Earthling, it was was a wonderful experience!” - Kassidy LeClair

FAQs

  • Full instructions will be given to you when you sign your contract and pay your deposit. Once your baby is born, you will contact me to schedule a drop-off/pick-up time. You may choose to drop-off your placenta at my house. For convenience, I also offer pick-up service at your place of birth (at no extra cost).

Once I have your placenta, the turnaround time is *usually* 24-48 hours. I will contact you when your package is ready to be dropped off at your current location. If you’re still at the hospital or birth center, I will come to your room. If you’re at home, I’ll text you when your package is quietly dropped off at your door (l don’t knock/ring the door in case baby is asleep).

  • The total yield of capsules often depends on the size of the placenta. Most women will receive 80-120 capsules, which will last about 4 – 8 weeks postpartum. Additionally, the placenta tincture will extend the benefits of your placenta long after your capsules are gone.

  • On average, placenta capsules have a 2 years shelf life if stored properly. After the initial postnatal period, any leftover capsules can be stored in the freezer to use as needed.

The tincture will last indefinitely when stored properly in a cool, dark place.

  • You will receive full instructions regarding dosage with your capsules. The suggested dosage will be written on the label of the bottle and in a separate handout as well.

Every woman and their postpartum period is different, so I find it’s best to judge what dose suits you better according to how you feel and how you respond to the capsules.

The dosage instructions given are generalized. Different women have different needs and we will discuss what will be best for you. I suggest taking the capsules at meal times.

  • Safety and hygiene are paramount with any kind of placenta preparation. The method I use consists of rigorous sanitation standards for bloodborne pathogens.

I have dedicated supplies and equipment. I use stainless steel and disposable materials, so it’s discarded after one use.

All submersible equipment are washed in very hot water with antibacterial soap, then sanitized and air dried for a minimum of 10 minutes. Antiviral and antibacterial solutions are used for the non-submersible equipment.

  • The placenta is able to filter out medication quickly. It acts like an interface between mother and baby. There will be some epidural medication passed to the baby and a small residual amount left in the placental blood.

I have encapsulated placentas from women who have had epidurals, spinals, c-sections and inductions.

  • Group B streptococcus (GBS) is one of the normal bacterias that can be found in a pregnant woman’s vagina or rectum.

At around 36 weeks gestation, you will be tested to alert your care provider for this to become a problem during labor. Some women choose to be treated for it and others don’t.

Regardless of your choice, your placenta can still be encapsulated as the heat of steaming and/or dehydration will eliminate any remaining bacteria.

    • Chemically contaminated placentas in pathology, either sanitizing or preserving.

    • Placentas that have sat out longer than 4-5 hours at room temperature post birth with no preservation methods.

    • Placentas that have sat in the refrigerator for more than 4-5 days without being frozen.

    • Uterine infections or chorioamnionitis ( an inflammation of the fetal membranes due to bacterial infection)

    • Heavy drug usage.

    • Heavy smoking during pregnancy.

    • Cancer of the placenta, which is called choriocarcinoma.

  • No. There are no binders, fillers, or preservatives added into the capsules. The content is 100% your placenta.
